2 Things To Do To Get Your AC Running Again

Posted on: 25 July 2019

Keeping your air conditioner going on those very hot summer days means that you can be comfortable inside, even if it has hit the triple digits outside. So, when your air conditioner stops working, you want to do everything you can to make sure that it gets going again as soon as possible. You have several things that you can do in order to see if you can get your air conditioner running again. So, what can you do until you can get an air conditioner repair tech out?

Check the Power

The first thing you want to do is check to make sure that your air conditioner has power. If it is a central air conditioner, it is probably hardwired into your home's electrical system. So checking to see if it still has power is pretty easy. All you have to do is to go to your circuit box and look to see if any of the circuits are turned off. If they are, just flip the one that is turned off. If that gets your air conditioner going again, then you are in business. If your breaker immediately turns off again, then you should leave it off until you can get a professional out to look at it. Trying to leave it on when there is an electrical problem could cause more problems than just not having any air conditioning.

Check the Outside Unit

The next thing you want to do is to check the outside unit. You are looking to see if it has any kind of dirt and debris in and around it. If there is any dirt blocking off the vents in the unit, it could block the air off and make it so that your air conditioner doesn't want to work. Just pick off any dirt and debris that you can, and then take your garden hose and hose off any other stuff on there, like grass clippings. You should also make sure that there aren't any grasses or weeds growing up around the unit. If the unit is iced over, you are going to need to make sure that you leave it off until the ice all melts, and then you can try turning it on again.

If your air conditioner doesn't work, you want to get it working again as soon as possible so that you can get your house nice and cool again. If nothing you do manages to get it turned on, then you should call a professional from a company like Sherwood Mechanical Services and have them come out and look at it.
